Why do so many companies do Pay-Per-Click PPC all Wrong?

Most PPC campaigns we see are either being done all wrong or costing way more than they should. When they do target the correct words or phrases, they don't take the steps to stop showing ads to undesirable viewers. This is throwing away money. TLC researches your market and will micro-manage your PPC campaign for maximum results and a minimum cost.

Pay-Per-Click, PPC Tips for Effective Search Marketing

 1. Define your goals and what strategy you want to use to reach these goals. Determine what will define your campaign as a success.

2. Gather Data. There is nothing more important than making informed decisions. Gathering data should not be limited to a single online source but open your eyes and look at every possible influence on your business. Customers are a great source of data. Always be in tune with your customers needs and plan accordingly.

3. Bid on appropriate keywords. Its a general theory and common misconception that the more keywords you bid on the better. Well theoretically you will drive more traffic to your site but it will not be relevant. Bid on actions rather than objects. By this I mean if you are in the jet charter business, rather than use "private jet", use "charter private jet".

4. Target proper landing pages. Finding the ideal landing page can take some trial and error, but for a general rule, it is best to use as relevant a page as possible. Too many people go straight to the home page and their conversion rate suffers badly.

5. Think negative. Let's use the charter company example listed above. If you target "private jets" you will show up for private jet crashes, pictures and even jobs. Adding negative words in your Pay-Per-Click campaign will stop you from showing in these searches and save you a lot of money.

6. Stick to the majors. Sure you can go out there and sign up with every engine or PPC program but are you really going to see the return on your investment. So for the time being I would keep my money in Yahoo, MSN, Ask, and Google.

7. An unrelated tip. When making a list of tips or other data, you are much more likely to have it read if you choose an odd number of items in your list. The exception to this rule is a top 10 list.
